Hi there

Complete newbie here - after googling for my problem i fould alot of hits on this site.

So here goes:

For the last one week i have been having this issue where when i start up my machine, within a few minutes Symantec Anti Virus Auto Protect pops us and says it has detected a Trojan Horse. This then carrys on through out the day - at times there are over 300 enteries.

When i go to the location that its has identified there is nothing there. most of the time it picks up an arbitratry location like "E:\ "

When i click on any of the enteries it picks up 2 files - An Infected File and A Browser Cache Remediation.

I can update my dat file and run a full scan and it finds nothings. I have downloaded the most recent version of Mcafee Stinger and it does not find anything. i have also diabled system restore but to no avail.

The link on the Auto-protect results windows takes me to http://securityresponse.symantec.com/secur...-021914-2822-99
and ihave followd the instructions - but come the next day it starts again.

I am on Windows XP and have Symantec Anti Virus ver 10.0.0.359

Any help is much appreciated

thanks

dude_chilled,
Please can you download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

[list][*]Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
[*]At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
[*]If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
[*]Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
[*]When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
[*]Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
[*]When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location.
The log can also be found here: C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
[*]Download HijackThis choose "Save" and navigate to the folder where itīs saved and doubleclick upon it.
This is a complete installer that installs Hijackthis onto your computer to C:\Program Files\HijackThis and makes an entry in the start menu & allows you to have a shortcut on desktop
then Doubleclick the HJT icon on your desktop, hit "Do a system scan and save logfile". Save the logfile and a txt-file will be produced.. Copy that one and paste it in the HijackThis Logs forum.
Call it some ting like "my HijachThis log" in the Topic Title
and then put "referred by GRAFX" as the Topic Description

Also Please can you include a link to this post for reference
