Hello,
System requirements for ad-aware or Spybot or other popular anti
spyware applications do not include mac operating systems.
The short answer is no, ad-aware does not work with mac.
There were a number of applications some years ago which were
specific to mac. I have a number of them, the three are worth
mentioning.
Gate Keeper: This I believe was the first firewall for any platform and if you can find it it is worth having.
Disinfectant: It was discontinued after the emergence of macro viruses.
It is still good for corrupt or damaged files.
Ajax: It is also discontinued but you may still find it on ftp servers.
I believe a Hosts file is now also available for mac but I do not know how relevant it is.
I think MacAfee and Norton and some others have started marketing mac
anti virus software. However the general consensus amongst mac
users is that macintosh computers at least at present are more or less
safe from spyware and viruses. Nevertheless, one could fall vactim to
phishing if one is not careful about the links it clicks on.
Cheers

Hello,
You could try this site. It seems to be still around.
I wonder if Chris Johnson, author of GateKeeper
would post the manual.

Hello,
I am happy to add the following response from the author of the Gatekeeper and
who knows if many people start using it he might consider updating the firewall.
At least this is what I hope. Cheers

I've restored the manual to:

My Virex 7.7 did catch a virus on my machine about frou months ago. Unfortunatly the ony thing I remember is that it was classified as a trojan. I wish I had more details, but at least we know it can happen. It should be stated, however, that I have an "always-on" connection to the web, and that is the only I have had in the three years my mac has continuously been running.

Hello,

We started using applemac in 1992 (LC II) and not once I have found a virus or any other malware. But I have always installed
whatever anti virus, anti spyware software was around.
There is no point in being complacent and closing the door after the horse has bolted.

Here is the link for Agax. It is an informative site.
